ABOUT THIS COURSE

Did you know that climate action can also take place through the integration of green and resilient strategies in housing?

But what exactly does it mean for a home to be considered green and resilient?

Is it possible to implement these strategies in existing or older homes?

We invite you to join this course and explore the answers to these questions while learning about the design of green and resilient housing from experts at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The green housing sector is rapidly growing and represents a major market opportunity. Residential green construction is expected to reach $15.7 trillion globally by 2030. This represents a great opportunity for private sector actors to adapt their business models to shifting consumer demand, investor interest, and global regulations.

Housing is a basic social condition that directly influences people’s quality of life and well-being. The Habitat II Agenda of the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements in Istanbul (1996) emphasized the need to address housing demand not just from a shelter perspective, but also to ensure thermal comfort, sanitation, and adaptation to local environmental conditions—while remaining accessible and affordable for all social groups.

This course will cover foundational concepts of green and resilient housing, tools and strategies for green design using both modern and conventional technologies, and financial and non-financial instruments to promote green housing.

This is a self-paced course, meaning you can register at any time, even if the course has been open for a while.
